Backpouch: Dual-strap pouch you can carry on your back
Multi-purpose pouch you can carry like a backpack. Waterproof, 3 inner pockets & 1 outer zip pocket. 2 detachable shoulder straps.
Introduction
With Backpouch, we are introducing a more comfortable way for users to carry a pouch. You can now carry a pouch just like how you would carry a backpack. Made of Nylon, the pouch measures 23.5 x 17cm (9.25 x 6.69 in) It comes with a pair of detachable and adjustable strap measuring 134cm (52.76 in).
Inspiration
We were inspired to launch this project as we wanted an alternative to carrying a waist pouch (also known as a fanny pack) or crossbody bag. If you find carrying your pouch on your waist or across your body uncomfortable or awkward, like we do, Backpouch is a great option.
Benefit
Carrying your pouch on your back is second nature and allows for better weight distribution, promoting better posture and reducing strain. Carrying your pouch supported by other parts of your body, besides your back, may lead to you developing unnatural posture and long-term health issues.
Audience
Literally anyone will find Backpouch useful. If you workout regularly, running, jogging or cycling becomes easier when your essentials, like phone and water bottle, are kept in your Backpouch. As the pouch is carried on your back, it has minimal obstruction to your movement allowing you to move and exercise freely.
Features
The pouch offers plenty of space to store your daily essentials. Inside, it features 2 small and 1 large net pockets. The small net pockets are ideal for holding smaller items, like your earpiece and keys, while the large net pocket is perfect for containing larger essentials, such as a notebook and portable fan.
Need quick access to your wet wipes or makeup accessories? Backpouch has an outer zip pocket for storing your most-used items so they are within reach. This ensures you can grab what you need quickly, whether you’re on the go or just need a quick touch-up.
Behind the scenes (Iterative design and development)
Our initial conceptualisation of the idea involved looking at existing pouches in the market and testing out our idea on them. All the pouches we saw came only with a single strap as they were not designed to be carried on the back. We worked around that by purchasing an additional strap either separately or as part of the main pouch.
We wanted our pouch design to be simple yet functional. Relying on a very basic sketch application, we managed to convey our idea across to our factory. We drew an illustration of how pouches look today and how we imagine it to be.
When we received our prototype, we were ecstatic. However, we noticed the straps were shorter than expected and the strap material felt flimsy. Also, we felt that adding a sponge material into the inner layer of the pouch would make it more durable.
Much effort and time went into revising our initial design of the pouch, such as the strap length and strap material. We also looked into suitable material for the inner layer of the pouch. Examining and analysing current options in the market helped us expedite the reiterative process.
Finally, our prototype was ready. After some visual checks, it met our precise specifications. To be sure, our team tested out the pouch and we felt confident this is something our market would want.
